I've been thinking about doing an article for the other website on 'How to Talk to Trees'. I've never really thought about how to do it before so consider this a 'dry run' on the actual article.

O.k...first question ~ how in the world do I start the thing?

Trees are somewhat like humans in the respect that they each have their own 'personalities'. Just as there are people that are easy to get along with and others that are nothing but crabs in human clothing, there are trees that are the 'same' way. What? Insane, you say? Trees don't have personalities, you say? We'll see about that. Try this simple experiment the next time you're in the woods and see what happens.

• First, pick a tree. It can be the one right next to a trail or one that you are simply drawn to. (It doesn't have to be a particular one but I've found that it helps to know what the species it is ~ you can note whether each type of tree has a different 'feel' to them.) Just make sure there is plenty of room around it so that you can stand comfortably and freely touch it. Be sure that there isn't any poison ivy on it!
• Place both hands flat on the tree. I would recommend against hugging the tree at the this point ~ you don't hug strangers without permission, do you??
• With your hands still flat against the tree, mentally greet the tree and introduce yourself. At the same time, send out a bit of energy through your right hand.
• Here is where the experiment may get a little interesting. You may feel one of three things:
  • a burst of energy, as if the tree is returning the favor of the energy that you initially sent out.
  • nothing, or a feeling of 'indifference.'
  • a feeling of withdrawal
• If you get a feeling of 'indifference' or withdrawal, move to another tree and try again. Just like people, not every tree will be compatible with your energy.
• If you find a compatible tree, experiment with what you and it can do. Here is another experiment to try, once you've made the acqaintance of a willing tree:
• think of someone that you would really like to hear from, especially if it's someone that you hadn't heard from in quite a while.
• Picture that person in your mind
• Ask the tree to pass the message along that you are thinking of this person and you would really like to hear from them.
• Thank the tree and if possible, leave a small offering in additional thanks.
• Now, just sit back and see if the person calls. When I tried this before, I heard from the person within 24 hours. Of course, time may vary with you.
