How in the world did I nearly lose 3 days? Oh, wait - Wednesday I moved a lot of furniture around here in the house and forgot about it; Thursday, I went with L. and A. to a couple of art openings - and got home late and went nearly straight to bed. Then there's today - and nearly midnight.

The openings were eye-opening, in several ways. The first one at Vanderbilt was a good lesson on 'why to avoid receptions if at all possible'. Crowds everywhere and it was hard to see some of the work. Of course, they put some of the work where the most people would crowd around - on the walls surrounding the food table. Again, of course, all the 'stuffed shirts' were here instead of looking at the art itself. A. had a mouthful to say about them, especially since L. told me that he had been a founding member of the Watkins Institute and had been instrumental in several other art - related ventures in Nashville. His main gripe is after all the work he and several other people have done to make Nashville a really top-rate art market, it is still where it was 20 years ago. People in Nashville just don't seem to want to work for it. It's sad, really.

There were some good pieces there, monotypes and prints - and they were in the back, away from the crowds. There were several that reminded of Bosch...there was also a bust of 'Monseigneur', the brother of Louis XIV. I found it kind of funny being that he was protrayed in the usual attire for the period when I've read that he had a penchant for...other things. Sometimes, I read somewhere, he wore gowns for his lover.

The second opening, at Midway Gallery, I think - was almost laughable. I have never seen such...cutesy stuff. Lots of white rabbits and flying pigs. The artist came up to us when we walked in and all we could do was say hello and walk away. It was kind of embarrassing but...what do you do when you have nothing good to say about something like that? This gallery also had 'sale' tags (40% off!! 50% off!!) everywhere - what do they think they're doing, yardsaling?

I finally got to tell L. about my trip up to Defeated and we're set to go back here pretty soon. She liked the idea of walking the trail and just setting up shop where ever something caught our eyes. We'll probably go sometime after the 18th when she's back from New York.

Today was spent mostly just working on revamping parts of the webpage. Sometimes, I get so damn tired of the thing...I wonder if anyone else does? Tomorrow, I'm getting out. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm going somewhere.

flora notes: The poinsettia was looking a bit bedraggled when I went out today to water it - I'd accidentally forgotten to water it for about a week...the peace lily has evidently decided that life is worth living and hasn't stopped blooming for about three weeks now. I don't know how it's going to take coming inside here in the next few months...the asparagus fern has bloomed twice now - but no berries yet...the soapwort and golden marguerite have decided not to die on me and are adapting to their new home well - along with the mystery plant, which never really seemed to have a problem with it's spot in the first place.

When I went to change the Sea of Felinity's drinking water today, I discovered that a frog has taken up residence there. I eventually caught it in a half of a 2 liter coke bottle and put it back when I was finished...last I checked, it was sitting on the rim, as if he were put out by having a clean place to rest. Sheesh.

On that note, I'm going to bed.
