January 3, 19....no, 2000 Days left until the national holiday known as my birthday - T minus 3 days Sad news - Today was the last day that a new daily Peanuts cartoon would be in papers. Get well, Mr. Schultz. Cold weather is on its way after all these thunderstorms today - could I be getting my wish for my birthday again?? Could there be SNOW on the way??? Potential new obsession: Phish. I heard one of their songs the other day and I think I may be hooked. I've even downloaded winamp just so I can listen to the PhishCast - all live Phish shows, 24/7. Today I got an offer in the mail where I can get 12 cd's for free...and Phish has 6...I could replace those KISS cd's as well - if the shipping isn't too outrageous. It's good for an artist to have some obsessions. Tomorrow's going to be fun - I have to go get my driver's license renewed. |
Well, the first official business day of the new year has come and gone with no major glitches. Now that it's over, I've been thinking about some of the predictions that were made for this time:
I know that it's not a big thing but it still feels strange to think of the year 2000. (just now on the news: they said flurries!!! flurries!!) I still remember how it felt when it changed from 1979 to 1980 - being only 10 years old, it struck a bit of fear into me. It was unknown because for the whole of my life at that time, it had been 197 - something. I remember hearing once that the next total solar eclipse that could be seen over the US would happen in 2048. It was (and still is) very nearly impossible to think of myself as 78 years old.
I guess that was what some people felt with this 2000 thing (I refuse to do that 3 letter shortcut again). It is a totally arbitrary thing but it can still strike fear simply because it brings us out of our little comfortable niches. We can no longer simply go along out of habit and write - we have to actually pay attention to what we're doing.
Now what does that say about me? lol
