We dodged the bullet this morning! Thunder woke me up again this morning and it was dark at 10:30 a.m. A tornado had begun forming just north of the house but it didn't come out of the clouds until it got several miles east of here.

This as the first time I had the opportunity to see what it 'feels' like when a tornado is near. Other times, I had been too young, in a moving vehicle or surrounded by concrete. All the cats, except two, ran into the house as fast as they could and the trees...all the trees on the north side of the property were literally scared and waiting to become ground zero! I thought at first that I may have been projecting my own uneasiness but this feeling was coming from without.

Note to all those guys (above, sideways, where ever) in charge: I'm not due for this stuff for another 6 or 7 years! Lay off!!

Ah, I suppose I should explain that. All my life, I've had the (mis?)fortune to experience a tornado in 10 year increments: in 1974 when one of the 133 that spawned from Alabama all the way to Ohio hit our home; in 1984 when a tornado started coming out of the clouds as I went home from school (luck would have it - it went one way, I went the other.) and then it skipped a year and appeared in 1995.

I was heading to the grocery store that May to sate my craving for oranges and on the spur of the moment, I decided to stop at a local mall on the way. I had just pulled into the parking lot when one of my guardians (Ariel, I think.) told me to leave in a very clear voice, 'Go get your oranges.' After that, I don't remember too much. I remember driving toward this nasty looking purple/black cloud and...as much as I hate to admit it - I was actually whimpering. Next thing I really remember is walking through the grocery store aisles in a daze, bag of oranges in my hand and the power off. Later, I found out that the mall had been hit and there were cars flipped over everywhere in the parking lot, including a huge truck that landed on top of a nearby art supply store.

I told you some of the stuff in this journal would seem crazy. Welcome to my life. lol.
