5 a.m. - no dreams yet.

I've just come in from sitting out on the porch with the Sea of Felinity, or rather, I've just come in from being overran by the Sea. There's no such thing as just sitting with that bunch.

While I was out there, I discovered that two more spiders have taken up residence on the porch - one being one of the big black and yellow 'writer' spiders. Unfortunately, the exact instant I turned on the flashlight to see her one of the kittens took that opportunity to get under my feet and...well, let's just say that I felt tangled up as I looked straight at this spider that could is easily four inches long - just as she was dropping below her web, legs splayed as wide as they would go, to repair it from the night's hunting. I don't think I woke anyone up with that scream of temporary terror. lol! How did I know it was female? Well, after watching the six that took up residence here last summer, I discovered that these little bitty spiders - barely big enough to cover a penny - would 'visit' the webs and soon afterwards the big Spiders would start spinning egg sacks.

At least they're not like wolf spiders - they drag their egg sacks with them wherever they go and when the spiderlings hatch...they tote them on their backs. It's kind of spooky to see this spider running along with the writhing mass on its back. Their egg sacks are neat to see, though - they're a marbled blue, like those big punching balloons I used to see everywhere when I was a kid.

Oh, yeah - the other spider is a golden orb. I don't know how that one gets enough to eat...every time I watch, the potential 'dinners' just punch right through the web without so much as an 'oops'. It looked as if last night wasn't much different - there were about four holes in the web. Perhaps the spider takes what it (I don't know about this one - I don't have as much 'experience' with golden orb spiders) catches to its day hideout. I do know that it dismantles its web every day and rebuilds it at night.

Well, now that you know more than you ever wanted to know about spiders - and due to the fact that I seem to be rambling more than usual - I will stop for now. Maybe I'll get some sleep - that would be nice...Good Morning, Sweetie...
