Quote: "Painting is limitless in that you can do what you like. People make rules like they make rules about God, but there are no rules. you can be as brave as you want to, or limit yourself as much as you want to."
- Jean Cooke

August 6, 1998

A curious story ran on the Channel 5 6:00 p.m. newscast - it was reported that black helicopters, with no markings whatsoever, have been flying low and fast over Bellevue in Nashville. It evidently happens several times a week. All the surrounding military bases and national guard units are saying that they don't use Bellevue airspace. A small newspaper in the area has evidently published a front page article on the occurances. I wonder if I could get a copy?

I know what this will probably get me (remember the old saying, 'Be careful what you wish for'?) but I wouldn't mind seeing one of these 'copters.

Last night's dream was a bit unsettling...

A momentous event occurred last night and today - I hung three of my paintings. They had been stuffed away in either my portfolio or in storage for a long while and now they hang where you can see them as soon as you walk in the front door. To most people, that may not seem like such a big deal but to me...it was deeply...spiritual. In the act of hanging my work, I honored myself; my ability and ultimately - the Lady herself.

Today's quote is especially apropos. In the latest issue of the Coventry Call (It's put out by the Witches of Coventry Green ), one of the articles was the tired 'coven work is better than solitary work'. I say it's tired because this debate has been going on as long as there as been a modern Witchcraft revival and it will continue to go on. Still, it was a good article.

Group work has its place and is even invaluable - especially in the learning stages. The interaction and camraderie that comes from group work can be a great confidence and esteem builder. However, the relationship between the gods and Their children is a personal one. Great things can happen in a group but it's hard to have a heart to heart with the Goddess when everyone is trying to sing 'Hoof and Horn'.

Being solitary isn't an excuse for laziness. Altars have to be set up (and used); devotions have to be performed and attitudes kept positive. Solitaries can interact with other witches and pagans at metaphysical shops, festivals and in recent years - the Web. Solitary does not mean isolated.

Banapis is still a bit sick - diarrhea. (Just what anyone wants to read about, eh?) Poor kid, she is wanting to be picked up and held so badly but the best I can do right now is make sure she gets all the attention she wants until the cycle hits the low point. I did that earlier today and she loved it. She also got tuna which she hardly ever gets. Get well, Banny.

Another bit of magick today -

I went out, as I usually do, 'round 3 a.m. to play with the kittens and to soak up some of the night 'vibes'. My tenant on the front porch is doing well and has grown quite a bit, even in these last few days. She was re-building her web.

I had never seen a writer spider build a web before. I thought that they probably put up the cross strands and then began in the middle, moving outward in an ever - expanding spiral. She did do exactly this for a bit, moving deosil, then she began to widen the spaces - eventually having almost 2" between strands. She then reversed and moving widdershins, filled those spaces - making a tightly woven web.

Thank you, Great Mystery, for today. Thank you for the high points - and the low ones.
