Wow - scientists found a 28,000 year old wooly mammoth perfectly preserved in ice today, complete with hair and all. The scary thing is that they are already thinking of cloning the thing...I wonder if it would turn out to be like Jurassic Park where all the clones went beserk or will it turn out to be like Dolly the sheep, who has already 'caught up' to the original sheep in cellular age? How will an animal with a cellular age of 28,000 look?
Will it even work if they do try to clone it? After all, it would seem to me that the closest relative to a mammoth alive today would be an elephant...but would it be close enough? After all, there are thousands upon thousands of bits in DNA...
One thing's for sure - at least there isn't the possibility of one considered to be female to suddenly become male. Even Jurassic Park was fiction, there was (and is) science behind it. In the book, all the dinosaurs were female - but they began reproducing anyway because the scientists had used frog DNA to fill in the gaps and some of the dinos changed gender. Some amphibians can indeed do this if there is a shortage at the time. Last I heard, elephants don't have this ability...but I guess nothing's absolutely written in stone, hmmm?
I'm tired. I've spent a great deal of time today cleaning; going through boxes of junk, throwing away great masses of aforementioned junk and trying to get out of doing the whole thing. I partially succeeded on all counts.
Where did all this stuff come from, anyway??
I think that this is going to be a short entry tonight. I just want to go read for a while before going to sleep. I still feel as if nothing's happening in the training department...but several things have happened that I have surprised myself on so maybe all's well afterall. I'll write about it later - like I said, I'm tired.
On to the next entry
