Days left until the national holiday known as my birthday - T minus 6 days
Whoo-hoo!!

New Year's Notes:

Most spoken language on earth:
Mandarin - 822 million

runners up:
spanish
english

Big New Year's fireworks displays:

  • London: planned to 'set' four miles of the Thames on fire by firing a sequence of pyrotechnics that were sychronized with the rate of travel of the sun across the sky (2 miles per second) with 15 minutes of fireworks to follow.
  • Paris: outfitted the Eiffel tower with 20,000 lights. At the stroke of midnight, the Tower was turned into a gigantic sparkler with sequenced fireworks. A large beacon was also added to the top of the Tower that will light the night sky throughout the year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Other New Year's Festivities:

Y2K problems:
3 missiles were launched but were called 'non reportable'. They were somewhere in the Chechneya region. They were not reported due to an agreement between USA and Russia (yet it was mentioned on ABC this afternoon...go figure.).

WHAT AM I DOING FOR THE NEW YEAR?

Well, I have a bit of a little ritual - I try to be doing something at the stroke of midnight to signify how I want the year to go. This year, I plan to be painting so that the coming year may be fruitful and creative.

Otherwise, I've been flipping between ABC and PBS to see how the rest of the world is celebrating and making lists of all the languages I want to learn and places to visit. So far, the languages include:

Happy New Year, y'all. May it be everything you wish it to be and more.
