Living History

What a day this has been ~ the announcer on the radio was right when he said that we are living history today.

Today was a little different to begin with because I had to get up early to pick up my truck (hey ~ a pun...)from the dealership (I couldn't do over 50 and that was after letting it sit for 30 minutes first. Turns out, all it needed was a new fuel filter.) I woke up about 9:30, an hour after the attacks occurred. At first, I thought that the radio station must be playing a joke ~ or at least a 'War of the Worlds' scenario. I couldn't understand what they were talking about...then I saw all the video on tv.

I don't think I will ever forget the scenes of that plane heading straight into the tower. Even now, all these hours after the event, my mind still wants to say that it couldn't be real ~ it has to be something out of Hollywood. Has to be.

Even now, I have a headache from watching all the news reports and running to all the websites to get the latest. It really happened.

C.M. has an aunt that had worked at the Pentagon at one time ~ he doesn't even know if she has retired before now or not. No news. Perhaps that's a good thing.

I think that this Samhain will be a bit more solemn than usual. There are many, many more souls to light a candle for this year, from those who chose the manner in which they met their death ~ be it by crashing the plane or choosing to jump instead of being burned to death ~ to those who had no choice while they sat unknowingly in their offices or tried to save the lives of the injured.

Another thing that I will remember is this: I went outside this morning after hearing all the reports and simply looked up into the sky. It was a perfectly cloudless, blue sky and the waning moon wasn't far from setting. The only thing different was the absolute absence of planes flying overhead. It was as if I was looking into a sky from a hundred years ago.

It'll never happen again. Life goes on.
